Lesson 6 Intermediate
I Can't Dance
We here at Turkish Tea Time believe everyone is born with the gift of dance. But if you insist on sitting in the corner while we get our groove on, at least let us teach you how to tell everyone you're a wet blanket.

why 'dans ogretmeniyim', rather than dans ogretmenim ?
Justin
That's the difference between "I am" and "my." They usually look the same except where there's a final vowel involved:
-im for "my" doesn't take a buffer letter.
-im for "I am" takes a buffer y.
So, for example:
Kedim. (Benim kedim.)
My cat.
Kediyim. (Ben kediyim.)
I am a cat.
-im for "my" doesn't take a buffer letter.
-im for "I am" takes a buffer y.
So, for example:
Kedim. (Benim kedim.)
My cat.
Kediyim. (Ben kediyim.)
I am a cat.

This is just to point a non-vowel harmonized question particle in the last example of the language points section, "oturabiliyor mi?". The horror!
Justin
THE HORROR!

Why 'dans ogretmeniyim', rather than dans ogretmenim ?
Because there's "Dünyanın" before it. Here is a grammar called Tamlayam.
When you want to express something belong to something ,you use this form- in/nin + i/si.
For example :
Dünya+nın öğrentmen+i ,the world's teach
Dünyanın en iyi öğretmeni+yim - I'm the best teacher of the world .
Anne+nin ev+i ,moms' home.
